Role Overview
We are looking for a driven and ambitious design leader to head up our design function. The successful candidate will be a key part of our growth and will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
They will be responsible for delivering product and system design work in alignment with the business technology strategy, ensuring our design capability, process and methodology is world class and aligned with our corporate values, and growing a high performing multi-disciplinary design and analysis team.
Candidates will be rewarded with 56 days off consisting of 22 days to use as you like, 26 fixed days (alternate Fridays off) + public bank holidays.
Essential requirements:
- Experience of mechanical design of complex components and systems
- Strong understanding of finite element and finite volume analysis methods (FEA, CFD)
- Proven track record in growing, developing and leading high performing technical teams
- High levels of personal accountability and ownership, to effectively deliver on challenging and ambitious targets
- Strong presentation (both of technical solutions and data) and reporting skills
- Ability to focus on detail to fully understand issues and drive improvement
Beneficial requirements:
- 5 or more years relevant industry experience
- Experience in hydraulics/servo valve and proportional valve design
- Understanding of Additive Manufacturing process
- Understanding of metallurgy and material science
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver on aggressive technology development targets to create value and deliver impact, working closely with the Leads of other engineering functions (Electronics, Prototyping, Development, Digital)
- Grow, develop and lead the design and analysis team, ensuring we have the right skills and experience to deliver on technology roadmap
- Support Sales and Production with continuous improvement activities on our products in service to ensure best alignment with industry needs and feedback
- Ensure our tools, capability and processes are fit for purpose and world leading
