We are seeking a high-performing Head of Design to lead and expand our design capability within our fast-growing company. As the Head of Design, you will play a pivotal role in bringing our world-class products to market across a range of sectors and industries, delivering significant innovation and impact.
You will manage the Mechanical Design Team Leads for our Valves and Suspension product lines, as well as various technical experts within the Design organisation. Your main focus will be to ensure consistency and high quality in our design methodologies and to deliver innovative world- class designs that align with our technology roadmap. Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing the growth, development, and efficient operation of the design teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience (more than 3 years) in managing a team of teams, preferably in the manufacturing or technology industry.
- At least 3 years design experience, preferably on complex mechanical products
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality designs that meet product specifications and market demands.
- Strong knowledge of design methodologies, including CAD software and simulation tools.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Innovative mindset with the ability to drive creativity and inspire design excellence.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, fostering strong cross-functional partnerships.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to align design goals with the company’s technology roadmap.
- Strong reporting and communication skills
- 5 or more years managing engineering team of teams
- Experience of hydraulic systems
- Automotive or aerospace systems knowledge
- Experience in designing for Additive Manufacturing
- Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the Design Team Leads for Valves and Suspension and various technical experts within the Design organisation.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration between the teams to drive cross-functional synergies.
- Foster a culture of innovation and creativity, encouraging the teams to push boundaries and explore new design concepts.
- Develop and implement consistent and high-quality design methodologies
- Lead the design teams to deliver world-class designs that meet or exceed product specifications and customer expectations.
- Ensure the timely delivery of design deliverables, while maintaining a focus on accuracy and precision.
- Oversee the recruitment and onboarding of new team members, ensuring that the design teams are equipped with top talent.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Manufacturing, Electronics and Product Validation, to ensure seamless integration of design processes.
- Implement design review mechanisms to identify and resolve potential design challenges early in the development process.
