We are seeking a driven and ambitious junior manufacturing engineer to join our team and support the development of our manufacturing capacity and capability. The manufacturing engineer will be responsible for creating world-class process documentation, analysing opportunities for improvement and leading projects to implement change.

A successful candidate will play a vital role in the development of our brand-new operational production facility in Pucklechurch, helping to create capable manufacturing processes and innovative solutions to engineering problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with operators to document and analyse existing processes.
  • Conduct projects using DMAIC process improvement system.
  • Perform and participate in root cause analysis and investigation.
  • Define and implement preventative, predictive, active and informative controls for reducing process variation; ball bar checks, pre-flight checklists, PFMEA’s etc.
  • Use Lean tools to improve performance; 5S, SMED, POKE-YOKE, TPM etc.
  • Carry out 5S on work areas to reduce cost, simplify work, reducing searching time and prevent breakdowns.
  • Identify the need and run tender processes for new equipment to improve capacity and capability.
  • Developing predictable manufacturing processes using preventative, predictive, active, and informative controls.
  • Facilitate good design for manufacturability by collaborating with the product design team.
  • Design of fixtures for process improvement and medium-volume manufacturing
  • CNC programming for medium volume manufacturing.
  • Cutting tool selection and running machining trials.

Essential Requirements:

  • Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to work with digital tools, including high computer literacy and familiarity with Office 365 and databases.
  • Organised and detail orientated.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Beneficial Requirements:

  • Previous experience using Lean and Six-Sigma techniques.
  • Manufacturing experience; 3D metal printing, milling, turning, grinding, EDM etc.
  • CAD package proficiency.
  • Understanding of inspection methods, the best equipment, and the relevant capability.
