We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manufacturing Manager to lead the establishment of our new Prototyping capability. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in executing our prototyping strategy, ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of prototype hardware to our Product Validation Team. Your responsibilities will encompass developing and managing the prototyping process, overseeing the operation of in-house machines, and building a high-performing team. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing the prototype supply chain and ensuring our organisation has the necessary capabilities to deliver our current and next-generation products.
- Build and Delivery Prototype Hardware:
- Establish and execute the prototyping process, focusing on delivering prototype hardware to the Technology Team on time and to the desired quality standards.
- Drive the development and refinement of processes to optimise prototyping efficiency and effectiveness.
- Work closely with design teams to ensure Design for Manufacture learning and feedback is embedded in new products.
- Operate and Maintain In-House Machines:
- Plan prototype production, ensuring on-time delivery to internal customers
- Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of machines, addressing any issues or improvements needed. Processes include additive manufacturing, milling, grinding, turning, wire EDM and various measurement and finishing operations.
- Recruitment, Management, and Development:
- Build and lead a skilled and motivated prototyping team, actively participating in the recruitment, selection, and development of team members.
- Provide strong leadership, guidance, and mentorship to foster the growth and professional development of the prototyping team.
- Prototype Supply Chain Management:
- Establish an effective prototype supply chain, ensuring timely availability of required materials and components.
- Establish relationships with suppliers and vendors to optimise the procurement process and manage the prototype supply chain effectively.
- Proven experience in managing prototyping activities within a manufacturing environment (3+ years experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience in manufacturing precision equipment (<5 micron tolerances)
- Strong knowledge of prototype development processes, including planning, execution, and quality control.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining prototyping machinery and equipment.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
