  • develop vehicle models to enable faster pace of active suspension development
  • understand customer and system requirements
  • propose control strategies to best meet customer needs and requirements
  • understand and improve on existing control strategies
  • understand and contribute to low level hardware control strategies for suspension actuators
  • evaluate and make recommendations based on test data
  • make data driven improvements to models and controllers
  • assist with model driven development of future products
  • assist more generally around control and modelling of Domin products

The successful candidate will be proactive in proposing and delivering appropriate solutions to vehicle modelling and control and demonstrate an ability to manage their workload effectively to meet project goals. They will have the opportunity to work with and be supported by highly experienced engineering and production teams. They will have an eye for detail and combine broad and deep knowledge to work effectively with complex systems.

Essential Requirements:

  • An understanding of vehicle dynamics and how to apply and iterate on them in real systems.
  • An understanding of control theory and its application to electronic, hydraulic and/or mechanical systems.
  • A proven ability to use maths as part of a design process.
  • A broad understanding of electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, and other relevant subject areas.
  • Programming in a scripting language e.g. Python, MATLAB, C#.

  • 2+ years of experience working on control and modelling in the field of vehicle dynamics
  • Hands on experience tuning ride, handling and control of active suspension
  • Experience of control theory and its application to vehicle dynamics
  • Programming in other languages including C++
  • MSc/PhD in control related field
  • Experience working with MATLAB and Simulink
  • Experience with automotive standards such as 26262

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and document electromagnetic and electromechanical systems including brushless DC and other motor topologies.
  • Model dynamic systems including motors, drive electronics and mechanical systems.
  • Design and tune control algorithms for a variety of systems.
  • Use simulation tools to iterate and qualify your designs against requirements.
  • Iterate and improve your models by carrying out and supporting real world testing.
  • Work with internal and external suppliers to deliver working prototype and production hardware.
  • Work with other departments to continuously improve our products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.
